November 27, 2007- Students of Forest Heights Academy of Excellence participated in a virtual field trip with the Smithsonian American Art Museum. With our docent presenters: Vivian Liebenau and Mary Lonam we explored icons so familiar to America—the Statue of Liberty, the flag, the bald eagle. We discussed composition and symbolism in art and the artists use images to share their personal ideas and to encourage thought about American Society. Mrs. H.
In my picture I have used red swords to symbolize victory, blue chains connecting to our flag to symbolize loyalty, and a white heart with peoples of all nationalities to show our equality and purity. Kelia R.
I choose the bald eagle as a icon because it is a part of America, It is on the presidential seal. I choose the American flag because of the colors red, white, and blue. These colors are our nations colors. The details I added on the bald eagle stand for a soilder Alanna k.
I chose the flag because it has our national colors and also because my favorite colors are red, white, and blue. Another reason why I chose the flag is because it was the easiest to draw out of all. La'Brandtai B.
The Lady of Liberty, Liberty Bell, and the Bald Eagle are all well-known figures in America. Red concerns the hardiness and valor of American citizens. White notifies the purity of America. Blue signifies the vigilance, perseverance, and justice our nation, America, has. Antonio D.
Red is for Victory. White is for Purity. Blue is for Loyalty. David W.
The Bell weighs 2000 pounds & it is made mostly of copper (70%) & tin (20%). Today, the Liberty Bell hangs in Philadelphia at the Liberty Bell Pavilion on Market Street for all to see and is still gently rung each July 4th. J'kyra B

Liberty Bell. It is a symbol of freedom. It first rang when the United States became a country.Key'Anna B.

This flag has 13 stripes and 50 stars.
The 13 stripes are for the 13 colonies that the United States has. The 50 stars are for the 50 states that we have and are proud of. So as you see our country is proud of our nation’s history and will be for the rest of our days on this earth. Amiri P.

I chose to draw U S A because it is the abbreviation of the name of our country. The United States of America. The three lines stand for the three branches of Government. The Executive Branch, part of the government headed by the president, which carries out the laws, The Judicial Branch, part of the Government that decides what the laws mean, and The Legislative Branch, part of the Government that passes the laws. Daniel J.

I choose to draw Uncle Sam. He symbolizes the United States. Uncle Sam is an un-friendly nickname for the U.S. government during the war of 1812. Uncle Sam has appeared in many forms in different time periods of the United States. Uncle Sam is in a lot of posters. Myles B.

The reason I choose the American Flag is because it reminds me of the troops at war in Iraq or Afghanistan. Also because it represents America, My Country. Khia T.
